Thank You!

Thank You!

Thank you to Brendan Murphy and the Autumn Hollow Band for organizing a fundraiser for C4C.  On January 27, 2012, Will Dailey, Autumn Hollow, and The Rationales performed at the Regent Theater in Arlington.  Crafts made by C4C young adults were sold and money raised will go toward enhancing the skills building program for youth in Zimbabwe.

Dale Street School Raises $12,100!

Dale Street School Raises $12,100!

Very generous 4th and 5th graders at Dale Street School successfully raised $12,100 to help orphans and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe. On November 21st, students participated in a “Hunger Luncheon” where they donated $2 and ate only a bowl of rice for lunch.  Over the next few weeks, groups of children organized additional money making activities.  Special thanks to: Ms. […]

A Day You Will Never Forget?

On the 30th of October 2008, the sky was vivid blue and had a hot wind blowing the dust.  I woke up in the morning feeling very weak.  My mind was so stressed with my mum’s illness because she was no longer able to eat.  That morning we had a wonderful conversation.  I did not know it was the last […]

Why Give to C4C?

Why Give to C4C?

Long time donor Jane Hale says the reason she gives money to C4C is she knows it will actually get to the children. Unlike big donor organizations like United Way, C4C is run out of a spare room of our house and has very few administrative costs.  Liz and I volunteer our time and energy because we believe in what […]

Lisbon Makes It

Lisbon Makes It

It’s somewhat unusual to see cars in Norton.  Most of the vehicles speeding past are combies (small minivans packed with more humans than seems possible), so it was with some surprise that I noticed a clean white Buick pull up in front of Vitalis’s house. When I looked, I realized that the driver of the car was Lisbon. “Behind every […]

In Memory

In Memory

Coalition for Courage admits children based on leadership skills and academic standing.  We do not inquire about a child’s HIV status.  Unfortunately, due to lack of access to HIV drugs, some children born to HIV positive mothers are infected at birth.  When we discover a child is HIV positive, a portion of sponsorship funds pays for additional food and medical […]

Graduates!

Graduates!

Coalition for Courage has now existed for long enough that a number of “children” have graduated and become gainfully employed, a feat that is quite amazing in a country where the unemployment rate is over 80%. According to the CIA World Factbook, Zimbabwe’s unemployment rate is 95% (2009 estimate that “also reflects under employment; true unemployment  is unknown, and under […]

Update on the Pad Group

Update on the Pad Group

In July of 2010, volunteer and long time C4C donor, Bridget McBride taught a group of 60 girls how to make washable pads. This past August, I got to sit down with the girls to see how their income generating project had fared over the past year. I was hopeful that they might have made some money, but having worked […]

Heather’s Trip to Zimbabwe

Heather’s Trip to Zimbabwe

I’ve been all over Africa – from the remote Namibian coastline to the glacial peak of Mount Kilimanjaro – but nothing quite compares to my trip to Norton this past July. Since Liz and I landed in Harare at night, my first look at Zimbabwe was all that could be seen in the headlight beams—mostly people walking along dark roads […]
